Volleyball- Choice Day

Today in gym class I played volleyball for choice. I was on a team with really great and motivating girls from my class, which helped me perform to the best of my abilities. I think that on choice days, it is really up to you to push yourself and try your best. So even though it was really crowded and loud, our team did things to make it a great class for us, such as cheer and high five each other after we got a point. We were also very supportive of everyone and even if someone missed the ball, we encouraged them to keep on trying. I personally am not that good at volleyball, so I often choose it so I can improve. One thing that I have improved on are my serves. I know this because now I can hit the ball over the net. Next time, I will probably choose a different choice so I can try something different out. All in all, I worked hard for the entire gym class and had fun as well!

Field Hockey Season!!!

A few weeks ago, the Field Hockey spring league started and I am really happy! I am playing U-15 this year with the Panthers. I have worked a lot on my goal tending skills during the "off" season and have gotten much better. So far, we have played two games. The first game we won 7-0 and the second game we won 6-0. I really like our team this year and we work together very well. We practice twice a week for 2 hours each practice. At practices, we work on our fitness, basic skills, and do game situations. Below I have my game schedule:

Tae Kwon Do- Red Stripe Promotion Test

On Friday, April 25, I had my Tae Kwon Do promotion test. I go the Woo Kim Surrey Tae Kwon Do every Sunday for 2 hours and sometime during the week. The test consisted of six different categories:
  • Basics, Kicking, Targets
  • Poomsae
  • Self Defence
  • Board Breaking
  • Sparring
  • Questions
Before the test, I was super nervous because I was worried about my board breaking, but Laura was there with me and we practiced before the test together and my nerves went away. For the next test, on goal I have is to have more confidence in myself, because not having confidence effects my performance, especially in the intensity component. In the end, I passed and was really proud of myself and what I had accomplished. The next belt test is in a few months and I will be testing for my red belt then, but right now, I need to focus on improving in my sparring and learning my next board break, self defence, and poomsae.

Laura and me after our test. We both did really well and can't wait to start preparing for our next belt test and learning as many new things as we can!

My Board and New Belt.

My Certificate.

My Report Card. I am very proud of what I accomplished during this test.

April 10- Capture the Flag

Today, our class played capture the flag on the upper field. The game was going well at the start, but unfortunately, as the game progressed people started to not participate properly or not participate at all.

At the beginning of the game, I was very involved and was staying active by running and getting the footballs. I tried to motivate my peers to participate, but it was difficult to continuously attempt to motivate them when they showed no interest. As the game progressed, it ended up being that only a few people were actually playing the game correctly and following the rules. I tried my best to continue staying active, following the rules, and having fun, but there were only a few people who were participating at this point, making it hard to play.

I think something I could have done better during this situation was to not give up on encouraging people to participate when they weren't, close to the end of the game. Near the end, I ended up getting a bit frustrated and started to ignore my classmates that weren't participating. Now when I look back and reflect, I think I should have kept on encouraging them, since it could have made the situation a little better.

I think that next time, our class should participate with more of a purpose, rather than most people just talking to their friends. I think this is a learning experience for myself and all my classmates. We realized that not participating can really impact the class in a negative way and ruin the fun for everyone.

Below, I attached a picture that any of my classmates can refer to if they read my blogpost about today to help them figure out what step they reached. I believe that I was at the top step for most of today's class, but occasionally dropped down to the "I will do it" step as the game went on.
